Keep Your Pump Station Moving With Our Maintenance and Refurbishment Services
July 18, 2025
Pump station maintenance is a key element to maximising the efficiency and operational status of your pumps and their associated assets. At Willow Pumps, we offer regular pump station maintenance but understand that in some cases, pump stations do fall foul of wear and tear. That’s why we also offer a wealth of refurbishment services, too.
Here, we explore just what we can do for you and your pump station, to keep it working around the clock.
Types of Pump Station
There are three main types of pump stations:
- Package pump stations
- Pre-cast concrete pump stations
- Adoptable pump stations
Here at Willow Pumps, we design, supply and install bespoke pump station solutions to fulfil the needs of your site, providing a comprehensive and efficient service for all stages of the process. In fact, we offer a free pump station design service if you book your supply and installation with us.
However, whichever pump station is installed at your premises, it’s essential to ensure it’s regularly monitored and maintained so it always operates efficiently.
Why is Pump Station Maintenance Important?
Pump stations work in difficult environments, under intense pressure, and although they are fitted with alarms to highlight issues, they can’t warn of issues before they escalate.
Failure of a pump station can lead to extremely high unexpected costs, from entire pump replacement to heavy cleansing or demand tinkering to remove wastewater and prevent flooding. By maintaining your pump station, you’re more likely to avoid these issues and the subsequent operational downtime failure brings with it, as you’ll gain a regular update on the status of your pump’s performance. Should a potential issue be identified, the engineer can make recommendations on immediate solutions to reduce the chance of costly repairs, site flooding and emergency call-outs later down the line.
Pump Station Maintenance Services
At Willow Pumps, we can provide a comprehensive maintenance service with tailor-made intervals, offering both interim and annual servicing for all applications across both clean and wastewater services.
- Interim maintenance: Interim maintenance service provides a full visual and operational health check of your pump station. From this, we can gauge how the pump station is operating and carry out important checks which indicate if the station requires any immediate work. This is a cost-effective check which can be carried out up to three times per year.
- Annual maintenance: as part of our annual service, we’ll lift all pumps and strip down on site, then check all rotation parts and carry out full electrical checks, including the operating lubricants. We recommend cleansing the wet well alongside this service, as best practice.
Pump Station Refurbishment
Of course, even if you regularly maintain your pump station to the highest standards, you can’t totally avoid the general wear and tear associated with age and use. Plus, given pump stations are regularly exposed to raw sewage, storm water and oil, they’re prone to rust and corrosion.
At Willow Pumps, our engineers are experts at spotting corrosion during a regular service, and will talk you through any future issues it could cause. They’ll recommend refurbishment works to you that can be carried out before the pump station becomes subject to failure or in need of a replacement, ultimately saving you money.
Our Pump Station Refurbishment Services
As part of our refurbishment services, our technical experts will conduct a survey of your pump station and provide you with a comprehensive overview of its condition, including photos and recommendations. We can then undertake the pump station refurbishments required, including:
- Removing the pump station’s original mechanical and electrical materials to replace them with new ones
- Removing all current mechanical materials in a wet well or dry well, re-installing them with appropriate replacements
- Fabrication and welding where old pumps need replacing with more efficient models
- Fabrication and welding where pipework modifications are required due to differences in the suction and discharge orientation
- Producing design and CAD drawings for electrical works if a new control panel is required
