Remedial Works Completed – Sewage Treatment Plant, Warwickshire
A Klargester sewage treatment plant in Warwickshire experienced a critical failure, leaving the system non-operational and putting wastewater treatment processes at risk. Immediate intervention was required to restore functionality and prevent further disruption.
The Challenge: Motor Failure and Water Ingress
When our engineers arrived on site, the plant was completely out of service. Electrical testing revealed the drive motor was flat to earth, with an insulation resistance reading of 0.0 MΩ.
Further inspection identified water ingress within the motor junction box, likely caused by recent heavy rainfall combined with a partially blocked outlet. This had allowed the motor to become submerged, creating a significant risk of extended downtime and potential damage to plant equipment.
The Solution: Rapid Motor Repair and System Reinstatement
The motor was safely removed and transported to our workshop, where a full inspection confirmed the need for:
- Full motor rewind
- Replacement of bearings, oil seal, and capacitor
Once repairs were completed, our team returned to site to reinstate the equipment. Key actions included:
- Reinstallation and secure mounting of the drive motor
- Reinstatement and greasing of the simplex chain
- Testing rotation and confirming correct operation
During reinstatement, the biodisc was noted to be slightly unbalanced with minor play, which is expected following a period of non-operation. Monitoring was recommended during the next service visit to ensure full recovery.
The Outcome: Fully Operational Plant and Ongoing Recommendations
