Are you having issues with your pump station? Pump stations can be large systems, and a single failing component could cause the system to turn off. The experts at Willow Pumps look at the top five signs that your pump station needs repairing:

The alarm goes off

A sounding alarm from your pump station is the clearest sign that something is not going well with your pump station. An alarm will typically be audible or show a flashing light pointing to an issue detected within the pump station.

The reason for the alarm activating could be a blockage, airlock, or issue with the float switch, water ingress, a loose impeller or several other issues. Our skilled engineers will be able to attend your site, ascertain whether it is a hydraulic or sensor issue, and then make the necessary repairs.

The pump is not activating

Is your pump not coming on? Some of the most common pump station emergencies are blockages causing the electrics to trip, a broken pump, a tripped contactor or the impeller becoming jammed, which will all result in the pump not coming on.

The pump is not turning off

When the sewage comes below a certain level, all pump systems should turn off automatically. If your pump is not turning off, this could be due to a problem with the control float switch.

This could be stuck in a position, resulting in the pump staying on and the resulting electrical bills. Another sign that your pump is failing to turn off is high electricity bills or an unusual spike.

Slow drainage

Fats, oils, grease and other debris will find their way into your pump system. These can clog up the pump system and will lead to slow drainage and associated issues, such as toilets backing up. If a blockage is severe, water may not drain away at all. Sewage pump stations should not smell, but slow drainage can also lead to foul odours.

Noisy system

Is your pump station making a lot of noise? Of course, pump stations can be noisy, but if your system emits excessive noise or vibration, this would suggest an issue with the pipework or pump set. Our engineers will be able to investigate and provide fast repairs and respite from the racket.
